Autovation® 2009 Highlights

Autovation® 2009 drew nearly 1,400 attendees from the utility-technology industry, the fourth- highest attendance in the conference’s history. Representatives from water, gas, electric and multi-utilities gathered Sept. 13-16 in the Colorado Convention Center in Denver to learn about leading practices for smart grid, smart metering, enterprise-technology solutions and tools for business transformation for the connected utility.

“We are extremely pleased, especially given the down economy and the fact that conference participation nationwide is down about 30 percent, that Autovation drew its fourth-largest audience on record,” said Utilimetrics CEO Joel Hoiland. “About 30 percent of our attendees were from investor-owned utilities, municipalities, and cooperatives representing key decision-making management who saw the latest innovative products and services from our 100 exhibitors, the largest smart-grid and smart-meter show in North America.”

The 2009 conference was book-ended by two dynamic keynote speakers – Daniel Burrus, highly acclaimed author, technology forecaster and business strategist, and Ed Lu, Ph.D., program manager in advanced projects at Google who leads the team developing the Google PowerMeter.

Other highlights included:

Educational Sessions

More than 50 educational sessions and 10 Pre and Post-Autovation® Courses made this year’s educational program one of our most impressive yet. In an independent survey conducted on-site, 83 percent of Autovation® Course attendees rated their course as good or excellent. More than 100 speakers shared a wealth of information among utility professionals.

Exhibit Hall

The Autovation® Exhibit Hall was packed with leading suppliers. Attendees benefited from on-the-spot demonstrations and access to the most innovative solutions available. Autovation® Innovation Showcase demonstrations allowed for in-depth presentations on the latest technology advances. Networking receptions both in the Exhibit Hall and at the headquarters hotel were an excellent opportunity to catch up with colleagues and meet new friends.
